Federal Ammunition, Mossberg and Palladyne AI announced joint development of SwarmShot on October 7. They propose a modular airborne counter-UAS system that would turn compatible quadcopters into reusable interceptors. Source: Palladyne AI.

The planned integration
The partners describe a compact airborne weapon module, specialized ammunition and Palladyne’s collaborative autonomy software. The first planned host is the Gremlin-X Group 1 quadcopter, followed by an integration kit for other compatible aircraft after qualification.
Why modularity matters
A reusable interceptor could be repositioned and tasked again, unlike a one-use effector. The architecture also raises engineering questions about recoil, aircraft stability, safe firing, target identification and coordination among multiple drones. The companies divided those tasks among ammunition, weapon-module and autonomy teams.
Development is not deployment
The announcement is a development plan. It does not provide independent hit rates, operational approvals, cost per engagement or a delivery schedule. Those figures will determine whether the concept is practical against varied small-drone threats.
