Gogo and Insitu Test Group 3 UAS Satellite Link

Gogo Special Missions and Boeing subsidiary Insitu say they have completed testing and integration of a high-speed satellite connectivity package for Insitu's Integrator Group 3 UAS.

The capability being integrated

The companies describe a modified Gogo Galileo HDX antenna and satellite service package adapted for Group 3 uncrewed aircraft. The goal is to provide an ITAR-free connectivity option with enough throughput for command links and sensor-data backhaul.

Insitu says the Integrator offers theater-level range, payload capacity and multi-mission flexibility. Adding satellite communications can extend the aircraft's usefulness when line-of-sight links are unavailable or when data must travel beyond the local ground station.

Why the link matters

For a long-range UAS, connectivity is part of the aircraft's mission system, not an accessory. Operators need reliable command and control, health data, payload control and a way to move imagery or other sensor products to analysts.

Higher bandwidth can improve responsiveness, but it also increases the importance of antenna placement, power management, coverage planning, encryption and electromagnetic compatibility. A satellite terminal has to work with the airframe's weight, drag and available electrical budget.

What the announcement does not prove

A completed integration test is not the same as a full operational deployment. The release does not provide independent flight-test data for every environment, nor does it guarantee service availability over all intended operating areas.

The broader signal is still significant: Group 3 UAS suppliers are treating resilient beyond-line-of-sight connectivity as a baseline requirement for persistent surveillance and distributed operations.
