A black-and-white FPV feed usually points to a format, power, or wiring problem. The good news: most causes can be checked in a few minutes before replacing parts.

First Suspect: NTSC and PAL Mismatch
Analog FPV cameras and goggles may use NTSC, PAL, or an auto-detect mode. If the camera, flight controller OSD, and receiver disagree, the image can lose color or become unstable.
The quickest fix is to stop relying on auto-detect. Set the camera and Betaflight video format deliberately, then power-cycle the system and check the feed again.

Power Can Remove Color
Some FPV cameras behave strangely when underpowered. If the camera is fed from a weak pad or a noisy regulator, the color processing can fail before the image disappears entirely. A dependable analog camera such as the 1200TVL starlight FPV camera still needs clean voltage to perform correctly.
Check the camera voltage requirement and power it from a regulated pad that can supply enough current. Avoid long, thin, damaged wires when possible.
Repair Bench Checklist
- Inspect the yellow video signal wire for cuts, pinches, or cold solder joints.
- Confirm camera ground and VTX ground are solid.
- Make sure Betaflight OSD format matches the camera format.
- Try a different channel or receiver input if the goggle supports it.
- Test with another known-good camera before replacing the VTX.
Do Not Chase Random Settings
Change one variable at a time. If you switch camera format, power pad, VTX, and receiver mode all at once, you will not know which fix worked.
For rebuilds, keep the video path simple: camera to FC video-in, FC video-out to VTX, and a reliable transmitter from FPV video transmitters with a correctly mounted antenna.
